Take lots of pictures and videos with your dog, and send them to friends and family. He is your friend.
Play with your dog every day. They love to play, and is great for your, and your dog’s health.
Talk to your dog. He will not understand you, but it will make him feel involved and he will enjoy it. You can use different tones with voice, especially while you are training him.
Give him treats for reward while training and also to supplement his regular diet.
Show, and give your love. Your dog will always love you no matter what, so please love him back.
Switch his toys often by taking away old toys for a month or so, and give him new ones. Then replace them with the old ones. He will see them as new toys again.
Give your dog a massage. Dogs love to be petted, and a massage is beneficial to the dog’s health. It is also very relaxing and healthy for you.
Make his tail wag. The dog’s tail shows his emotions. Do whatever you can to keep him happy.
Go on trips. Dogs can make your trip more fun and enjoyable. Find places that accept dogs, and if flying on airplanes check for dog travel accommodations when you make reservations.
Give Kisses. Give your dog a kiss, and see how many you get in return.
Get another dog. Dogs are pack animals and enjoy the company of other dogs.
Train your dog
Dogs need to know who is the boss, and that boss should be you. You and your dog will be much happier together if you make yourself the leader of the pack. Teach him basic commands such as sit, stay, come and down.
Training your dog properly will make your life easier and satisfy your dog’s desire to please you.
Socialize your dog by exposing him to different people and environments regularly.
Take him for a walk to the park, the pet store or just around your neighborhood. Praise him with a treat for being friendly to strangers who like to pet him, and to other dogs he meets on the way. The more your dog learns about the world around him the more comfortable he will be in it.
Teach your dog not to bark unnecessarily, or easily with out being provoked. If your neighbors get upset from his barking, get him a ‘silencing collar’.
Never scold or scream at your dog. Always use positive behavior reinforcement and praise him when he responds properly.
Always supervise your dog while playing with children. Children and dogs make great friends, but they must be supervised when playing together.
Small children should never be left alone with a dog, no matter how well the dog’s behavior might be. A child could innocently do something that could startle the dog and create a dangerous situation.
Give your dog things to do, such as asking him to fetch the newspaper from the door, carry groceries in a backpack or empty the clothes dryer.
Make him ‘sit’ before giving him a treat or ‘lay down’ before taking out for a walk. This will give him a sense of purpose and accomplishment, and increase his sense of wellbeing.
Join a dog club near you. Read all you can about your dog’s breed and others. Participate in dog club events. There are many dog-related activities that you can learn from and they are fun to do.
Be a good example of a dog owner. As a dog owner, you are responsible not only for your own dog’s well being, but for the good image of dogs everywhere. It takes only one irresponsible dog owner in your city to make life difficult for dog owners everywhere. Having a friendly, healthy, clean and well-mannered dog sets a good example for all dogs and owners.
Respect your neighbors. Not all people love dogs as much as you do. Keep your dog on a leash, and away from other people’s property. Do not force your dog’s company on a neighbor who is not comfortable with dogs. |
